Slow, slow, and really slow

It really does work! Just follow a few steps, you can delete duplicate photos in the Photos App, very safely.

This is a really great app! Very intuitive, very fast, very easy to use. It is saving me a great deal of hard drive space. I highly recommend it!

This is a great app. It is a little embarrassing to see how sloppy my filing has been but it is great to know there is a rational way to get out from under the mess I’ve made. Thank you very much.

Duplicate finder must look in entire hard drive, it performs in one folder which you can set the view and find it yourself, duplicates will be side by side based on file name or size, iPhoto always notifies for duplicates, scanning one folder is useless DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY, IT DOES WHAT IT SAYS BUT YOU DONT NEED TO FIND DUPLICATES IN ONE FOLDER AND NOT IN ENTIRE HARD DRIVE… !!!!! TRUST ME! FINDING DUPLICATES IN SAME/ONE FOLDER IS JOKE, TAKES FEW MINUTES TO FIND THEM, AGAIN IT DOES WHAT SAYS!!!! BUT EVERYONE HAS MULTIPLE FOLDERS, ONLY MULTIPLE FOLDER CAUSES DUPLICATES! THINK ABOUT IT YOURSELF, I STILL HAVE DUPLICATES BUT NOT IN SAME FOLDER TO USE THIS FUNNY APPS

The program seems to do a good job at finding duplicates between a set of directories but unfortunately the AutoSelect behavior limits its usefulness for my workflow — I am trying to use it to verify that all the pictures from a memory card have been copief onto my computer before wiping them from the memory card. Unfortunately the AutoSelect logic only allows the “one-button select” of the copies on the computer for deletion, when I am looking for the exact opposite — I would like to AutoSelect the originals on the memory card and delete those instead. If I want to use Duplicate Detective I have to manually select each and every duplicate file on the memory card which is cumbersome and not worth the time & pain. I did contact FipLab about adding this capability; they seem to be aware of the feature but can’t offer any feedback for getting to it or implementing it. In the meantime Duplicate Detecteve is not really useful to me, so back to running my 8+ year old version of ACDSee in a Windows XP virtual machine — ACDSee’s Find Duplicate function gives me the desired one-button-select behavior I need for my workflow.

I give it a trial run and was ammazed how well it worked that I purchased it. It has saved me around 300GB on the 1st hard drive scan ….

Poor product does not do as expected

does what it supposed to its kinda slow but at least it doesnt slow down other process

I got this because there are dozens of dupes in my itunes folder and photos folders and I wanted help finding and deleting them. On first attempt this app came up with ZERO dupes! Second attempt in itunes it came up with ONE dupe pair when I know for a fact there are many. Pretty useless for my purposes if this is the best it can do! Will probably delete it after a couple more tries. Too bad.

As mentioned iTunes has a duplicate finder for music files which I use. This program did the job for my photo’s. Enjoyed the comments while processing 3300 files. I even did a scan of my hard drive and found some old files.

In its first run Duplicate Dective recovered over 3Gb of disk space which is amazing. It does all the tedious work of sifting through ten of thousands of files locating dups.

Straight-forward interface and well-written dialogue boxes means you won’t likely delete things you didn’t intend to. This product did a good job for me.

I’m so happy to have stumbled onto this app. It took me approx 6 mins to do what would have easily taken me 6 hours! Worth every penny!

It works as advertised. I only wish that it could sort out the fact that if files are exactly the same time but have the “duplicate” filename structure (i.e.: file.txt and file 1.txt) that it was smart enough to grab the duplicate file instead of the original… 9000+ song files in iTunes that iTunes has botched up and duplicated a bunch for some reason and, although Duplicate Detective finds them, it selects the wrong file. Ugh… I’m hoping I can find a way around this because the amount of time this will take to do manually simply makes the app useless for this particular task that I got it for. For this reason alone, I give it 4 stars… Just a simple logic flaw in the programming.

Thanks to this app, I was able to free up 51gb of space on my MacBook Pro. Seamless operation and very user friendly. Saved hours of manual deletion. Thank you so much. David Tokyo, Japan

Using Duplicate Detective right now. The great thing about it is that it spots real duplicates, not just duplicated file names. You can easily compare the duplicate files it finds before you decide that they are, indeed, duplicates. Terrific.

When you drag your entire hard drive (Macintosh HD) atop the app, it can take a while to not just go through the files but then do the HASH work after that. Sometimes you may need to Pause that job so you can allow it to work later, yet there is no pause feature. If it had a Pause feature, I would have given it 5 stars because it is a great app otherwise.

I bought this not expecting to find many dupes. In fact, I had ~3500 dupes and cleaning them all up saved me several gigabytes of disk space. The UI is intuitive and while the hashes are being calculated, the "were still alive" messages that get displayed are both useful and fun. The only thing that might make it better would be to be able to pause it; otherwise, its as good as it gets. Very happy.
