Read more thorough reviews for the caveats. I like to keep things simple and this App does what it says it does and does it well. I’d like to responses from developer on adressing recoccurig requests.

It does everything it should, quickly and well—even while continuing to use the computer it does it’s job fast. I do wish that it had one more option. Rather than just keep the newest or oldest, I wish i could choose “smallest" or “largest" which would allow me to gather up all the compressed copies of images and movies and/or all the largest copies. GREAT App!
I have been looking for a decent de-duplication software package for all of my Mac’s - This application is easy to use, very powerful and works excellent! I am running El Capitan and it works flawlessly.
It’s a pretty simple application that compares files and has an auto-select feature and a preview built in. The most hillarious thing on it (at least for me) is the re-invention of the progress bar. It has a progress bar and on the top of it, a message box that displays messages to let you know that it is still working and changes every so often. I believe that is a simple and brilliant way to fix the progress bar issue. I do recommend it.
It just freed 2.2 g in one folder! I couldn’t find any errors. It’s pretty intuitive even though it does lack good documentaion. There is one point during the scanning process where it "says" "I’m not Frozen" lol and it was effective. It’s a nice addition to my arsenal of keeping my iMac healthy! Used it on my iMac 2012 with El Capitan
I used this program to free up 78 GB on my external hard drive. I just set it and let it run in the background. It was a super painless process. Well worth the few bucks.
I consolidated all my drives/directories with photos and movies onto my synology nas. Over the years I have made backups of backups of backups etc. Duplicate Detective scanned 79,542 files, found 38,003 duplicates and freed up 144.6 GB. All in under a couple of hours over my network.
Bought Gemini, and it got stuck and couldn’t cancel all my duplicates automatically, this one did and super quickly.. way better.
Yhis application has no SAVE button. I spent 7 hours selecting duplicates until the program crashed with nothing saved. Apple seems to post anything on the App store.
So helpful and so fast. Cleaned out ancient duplicate files for the New Year in no time.
Having transferred files from one new computer to the next, with unnecessary backups, my hard drive was a disorganized mess. Duplicate Detective located an astonishing 13,000+ duplicate files. It took some time to delete the surplus, but I could not have done it without Duplicate Detective. Easy to use and effective.
I NEVER thought I would be able to clean up about a gazillion files’ worth of duplicates, copies & “redo” folders…. This program is a real blessing if you are an inveterate hoarder of bits & bites… I went through 5T worth of files in less than 3 hours - and that was with a lot of coffee- and candy-breaks! THANK YOU FIPLab! Lil McD
This app works on simple folders or volumes, but not across volumes which is what my need is. Since there is no trial or refunds, I am disappointed.
I tried using this on an extrenal hard drive with 100K+ files. It got up to 159,353 files 2 separate times, and then stayed there. The “we’re not frozen…”, “still working on it…”, etc. progress messages still appeared and were chagning. But it would never get above that many files. Not sure why. Saw another review about this, and gave up. I kept the files pretty organized on my hard drive, so I was able to manually get rid of the duplicates pretty quickly (20ish minutes). Seems like a good app based on reviews, but didn’t work for me at all...
Slow. After hours of scanning it did seem to come up with a plausible list of dupes, but then couldn’t remove them because of insufficient permissions. Is it too much to ask for admin auth? Surely someone can do better than this.
Dis app does da best clutter removal I ever seen. I am duly impressed..!
Can’t get this app to start as it throws permission errors. It won’t start as root user either.
Clean interface gets the work done
I can’t beleive this is a highly praised app. I would not reccomend this to anyone…! The description is completely inaccurate. This may be useful to some of the dumbest mac users out there but even then, there are free apps in the mac app store that do a better job. Pleae dont waste your money on this. I am very upset with apple for not filtering the apps on the mac app store. Furthermore, FIPLAB should be ashamed for selling an app like this. The only function it does, and not even properly, is find duplicate images in Photos app. There are bettter apps for that that are free and I don’t understand why anybody would recommend this one. I have been a devoted OS X and iOS user since 2006. I have tried other devices and operating systems but non seem to be on the level apple is. Sadly, their level of excellence is rappidly decreasing and I’m not sure what to do next. FIPLAB, APPLE and any other persons/party involved in this app (and many others) please go back stop this catastrophe. People need a reliable company to provide them with efficient software as well as hardware and explanations as to what they are purchasing. :(:(:(
The step-by-step instructions did not match what happened as I used the app to remove duplicates in Photo. So someone who is not thoroughly comfortable with computing and not fully confident that his or her backups are current, might not want to use this app. It’s interesting that people who are probably highly skilled in writing concise, accurate software do not choose to write concise, accurate directions regarding the use of their software.
